But more than all of this...

Unfortunately a couple of things prevented me from doing a proper commentary for today's episode, however I felt like I needed to make mention of Jay Kenneth Johnson and Shelley Hennig's decision to leave Days.

First of all, no one can really blame them in light of the fact that neither of them has had a decent story since I went from seeing my psychiatrist on a bi-weekly basis to a weekly basis.  For pete's sake, Philip was relegated to being a secondary character in a storyline starring his sperm.  At some point I'm pretty sure Stephanie was being groomed to become the next Nicole Walker, but she very quickly became a one-note mockingbird - a third-tier character in a lacklustre storyline.

So several possible pairings have subsequently hit the ground nose-first like...well, the Caroline paternity test reveal.  But I'll be honest with you - while I leaned towards Phloe, Pelvis left all other Philip pairings in the dust.

When I think of what could have been...

...I think I have something in my eye.

Okay, really.  How hard would it have been to give JKJ an amazing story with James Scott already leading the pack?  I mean their families are steeped in history on the show, with a long-running rivalry no less.  Both EJ and Philip were constantly torn between wanting to please their fathers and wanting to be their own men.  And the chemistry between them was phenomenal whether they were enemies or frenemies.  And all this without me even having to mention how easy on the eyes they both are.

There was so much good stuff there, man.  The stories could have practically written themselves.  Hell, they could have just stood around and practiced lines from Waiting for Godot and I would still have been glued to the television.

The writers have done us yet another huge disservice by letting Mr. Johnson and Ms. Hennig slip through their fingers.  I'm shaking my head so hard right now that screws are coming loose.  Mind you, I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one with a few screws loose.

  2. I completely agree with you on this Dig. i didn't even think about Pelvis when I heard the news but I think that was because I was still in shock. Now I'm sadder over JKJ's departure. *sniffles* And I agree that Stephanie had the makings to be the next Nicole and create a Sole situation with her and Mel. Seems like the constant theme on Days is missed opportunities.
