Watching Days during Higley's reign, particularly since September, has seemed like a trip in a backwards world where logic and reason have no meaning whatsoever. What happens one day is forgotten the next. Core characteristics that made characters breathe have been decimated and all that is left are hallow shells that I have no feeling for and have no interest in watching.

I don't care about any character on Days anymore -- not even Sami and EJ. While I love the actors who portray them, I find no entertainment value in watching EJ as the cartoon villain and Sami as a brainless and victimized bimbo. Other characters fare no better -- Nicole going from abusive relationship to relationship - the woman has no pride or self esteem. Kayla is a shrieking shrew. The list goes on . . . but I don't want this post to become a novel.

Years ago when James E. Reilly was writing during his second stint, I quit Days out of disgust. The show was on a downward spiral storytelling wise -- I felt insulted as a person with a brain watching his crap. The sole reason I can back to the show was because I happened to catch James and Ali's first together. And I had heard that Reilly had been fired and replaced by a new writer. So I gave the show another chance.

I'm not sure that I can say that I'm glad that I gave Days another chance. While I did fall in love with Sami and EJ, I cannot say it's been worth the price of admission in the end. In a way, I wish I would have watched that first EJami scene, enjoyed it and then reminded myself that Days had transformed from a show that I thoroughly enjoyed (in the 80's and 90's) into an exercise in constant disappointment. That didn't start with EJami. There are many other instances during the 2000's when the show was a frustrating experience for me. I should have kept that in mind. When I have looked on YouTube at what other soaps were putting out during those years when I watched Days, I felt like I had made a monumental mistake as a soap opera viewer. I could have been watching stories that made sense, that had emotional resonance, when instead I entrusted my soap opera viewing to Corday and co. I always said to myself, "This has to get better, right?"

In any case, that's all water under the bridge. I love soap operas and I'm still watching them. But I am getting my fix elsewhere. If I want to take a trip to a world where everything is mad, I'll re-read "Alice in Wonderland." But Days is dead to me.

That's my rant.

Diggy, keep up the good work. Your blog is a pleasure to read.

xxoo

Miou aka VAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621965583343293981.post-7937561458637459642011-02-03T19:43:08.834-05:002011-02-03T19:43:08.834-05:00Fantastic, diggy!

First item on the agenda: reassignment of duties. Dena should be in charge of trash detail--that seems to be all she's capable of peddling these days anyway.angelsorceresshttp://s9.zetaboards.com/ejami_fans/index/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621965583343293981.post-76873477384525983352011-02-03T18:40:30.591-05:002011-02-03T18:40:30.591-05:00I for one believe that the writers wont stop until...I for one believe that the writers wont stop until they have EJ/Sami/Dumbass acting just like Dudley Do-Right, Snidely Whiplash & Nell...
I EJ starts sporting a cape and mustache I may turn postal!
xoxox NovelaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621965583343293981.post-6943059554624726852011-02-03T08:21:47.443-05:002011-02-03T08:21:47.443-05:00I love everything about this blog...you are always...I love everything about this blog...you are always so spot on...You need to see if it is possible to add a twitter retweet button and a facebook like button, so we can spread the word on this blog...

As for Dena, she can bite me, I hate what she has done to so many beloved characters on this show...Sonjanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621965583343293981.post-11044006362604843952011-02-03T07:59:55.017-05:002011-02-03T07:59:55.017-05:00Well the wait was worth it...best work yet Diggy.

It baffles me that with all the wonderful, dedicated work that JS and AS have given the show over the years that their characters could be written so poorly and out of character right now! I cannot stand plot points and I can't stand Higley's writing because it insults the viewers who take the time out to watch the show and get to know the characters and the relationships between them. What is the point of watching the show and getting emotionally attached if at any moment's notice they do something that is the completely inconsistent with their character? Everything she has done has turned this show into a mockery and a joke. As much as I was annoyed with Passions, at least they were consistent and didn't make me feel like history of the characters didn't matter. Granted, s/ls never moved but as least when they did their crazy stories it made some kind of sense and there was a reason for it. Sami shot EJ in the head and everyone acts like she just put a scratch on his car. Johnny loses an eye for what? And now Jennifer loses her heart only to get it put back together like humpty dumpty. What is the point? There is so much to work with on the show, there is a great cast and great characters to match. USE IT! Any head writer would kill for the opportunity she has, clearly she doesn't see it.JB7noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3621965583343293981.post-90549240954548025742011-02-02T19:01:24.213-05:002011-02-02T19:01:24.213-05:00Brilliant! There HAS to be something going on that we do not know about because EJAMI is a gold mine! Something is NOT right.

Another thing that is bothersome is that they made Johnny sick and for what? No EJAMI reunion through that? No discovering that Ally is actually EJ's? Sami-shot-EJ-in-the-head and John...I love ranting! Sami-shot-EJ-in-the-head and Johnny-lost-an-eye-to-cancer turned into nothing but plot points. Plot points with no payoff, so exactly what was the point - or is that - the plot point? I'm really confused about what all the carrying on was about. Since none of it makes sense, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks, mayhaps, that a portion of the script was lost (an 18 minute gap if you will) or someone thought they came up with a better idea. I'm really disappointed that the trick and fancy mirror scenes ended up being a waste of effort.

Of course, then there's Sami who didn't spend two seconds reflecting on the fact that she shot EJ. Anyone who shots an unconscience person in the head and then jumps into the sack with her boy toy dejour either has no conscience or a faulty circuit board in her brain. Pulling all the books out of the case in Roman's office would suggest that Sami is mentally unstable, but no one close to her seems to be concerned about her health. Since she has the impulse control of a toddler, Rafe would be well advised to sleep with one eye open and keep his service revolver under lock and key. If Sami would shot EJ, what's to stop her from capping Rafe? I think all the news items about the Tucson murders should be shoved under Dena's nose. That guy is undoubtedly going to spend the rest of his life in prison or a loony bin, and his crime will never be forgotten.cubbiegirlnoreply@blogger.com
